Sahara Sensor

If you have failed a hydrostatic pressure test on a new water pipeline and you want to keep your project moving forward quickly, the Sahara® leak detection system is your ideal solution.

With Sahara®, you can accurately locate the smallest of leaks in your pipeline. There is no need for mass excavation or going through the costly frustration of trying to manually guess the location of the distressed area. Sahara® locates leaks within a few inches!

Contractor Advantages

  • Find leaks quickly and accurately
  • Keep projects on track
  • Maintain your good reputation with clients
  • No need to excavate

With over a decade of experience at major job sites worldwide, you can count on Sahara® to deliver cost-effective and accurate leak detection solutions that keep your project on track.

Sahara® Services

Sahara® pipeline commissioning services from PPIC enable contractors to pass hydrostatic pressure tests by detecting the smallest of leaks within new pipelines and sewer force mains.

Sahara® uses an ultra-sensitive, tethered, acoustic sensor to detect leaks in pipelines (12-inches or greater) in conjunction with a standard hydrostatic pressure test. The sensor is inserted into the pipeline through a 2” tap (minimum) and passes through the pipe with the aid of high- tensile strength pull-tape.

PPIC customarily works with pipeline contractors and design engineers to recommend optimal access points. The locations of all detected leaks are marked at ground level above the pipeline, in real-time, and a GPS coordinate is recorded.

Sahara® Advantages

  • Can run during a pressure test, or while the line is in service
  • Uses existing 2” (50 mm) taps
  • Tethered control for safety and accuracy
  • Leak-free guarantee with proven sensitivity to leaks as small as 0.005 Gal / min (0.015 L / min)
  • Over 1,000 miles (1,600 km) of inspections
  • Real-time results allow immediate leak repair
  • Easy to use in pipelines of all materials
  • Can be used in pipelines as small as 12"
  • No maximum pipe diameter
  • Handles pressure up to 250 psi (17 Bar)

PPIC Emergency Services

In the event of a failing pressure test or large diameter pipeline rupture, PPIC can rapidly mobilize to provide pipeline operators with an assessment of the water main.

Dallas Water Utilities

When the Lake Fork Raw Water Transmission Main failed a series of hydrostatic pressure tests during installation, PPIC was contacted to use the Sahara® system to locate the reason why the line wouldn't maintain pressure above 190 psi.
