Pipe Inspection Services for Wastewater Utilities
Sewer leaks and failures are a fact of life for utilities. The use of CCTV has helped utilities get them under control on gravity mains however now PPIC can help do the same for pressurized wastewater pipelines such as force mains and inverted siphons.
Force mains and inverted siphons have unique warning signs of impending failure. Wastewater escaping from these pressurized pipelines not only indicates the loss of structural integrity, but can also wash out bedding causing sinkholes to form and pipes to buckle. Pockets of gas trapped in the lines can allow H2S to build up and eat away at the pipe wall, risking future loss of pipeline integrity.
PPIC inline acoustic surveys can locate both of these indicators that may potentially lead to future wastewater pipe failure. The surface location of leaks and gas pockets can be pinpointed to within 2 feet (0.61 meters). All this is done in real-time, with the pipeline in-service and fully operational.
Features and Benefits
- In-service inspection – no need to shutdown or dewater lines
- Locate leaks of any size
- Locate gas pockets and leaks within 2 feet (0.61 meters)
- Verify the hydraulic integrity of a pipeline
- Determine the exact surface location of a pipeline
- Real-time monitoring
- Works with any pipe material
- No maximum pipe diameter
- Low pressure leak detection - as low as 5 PSI
- Low pressure gas pocket detection - as low as 2 PSI
Sahara® for Wastewater Applications
Sahara® is an inline acoustic condition assessment tool which pinpoints gas pockets and leaks in pressurized water and wastewater pipelines. With over 1,000 miles (1,600 km) of surveys completed, and over 1,500 leaks found, Sahara® is a proven, reliable system for locating leaks of any size in large diameter pipelines.
Featured Project
Muskegon County
After a pipeline failure in 2007, Muskegon undertook a condition assessment program to determine whether rehabilitation of their pipeline was a preferable option to replacement.
