HISTORY
The Pressure Pipe Inspection Company Ltd. (PPIC) was founded in Mississauga, Ontario in 1997 to commercialize the Remote
Field Transformer Coupling (RFTC) inspection system for the nondestructive evaluation of Prestressed Concrete Pipe (PCP).
Based on over 15 years worth of intensive Research and Development by PPIC's Director, David Atherton, RFTC is a unique and patented technology that uses electromagnetic waves to detect and quantify broken wires in PCP. Water supply system operators use the information provided by an RFTC inspection to extend the safe and economic operation of their pipelines through the selective repair, replacement or monitoring of individual pipes. When compared against the cost of complete pipeline replacement, utilities that act on this information can save themselves millions of dollars. The technology has revolutionized the market for nondestructive testing of concrete cylinder pipe and PPIC proudly counts customers from across North America and around the world.
In 2001, PPIC expanded its suite of pipeline evaluation services through the acquisition of Scottsdale, Arizona's Pipeline Technologies - the pioneer in the application of acoustic monitoring techniques to the nondestructive condition assessment of water pipelines. Acoustic Emission Testing (AET), which identifies individual pipes that are suffering from active distress, offers pipeline operators a complementary alternative to PPIC's RFTC system. Taken in sum, the information provided by RFTC and AET inspections form the basis for an effective risk management strategy.
Hot on the heels of this acquisition, PPIC added the expertise of Markham-based Interactive Engineering to the fold. Interactive Engineering's strengths in pipeline consulting, risk management and computerized pipeline information management systems exploit the information provided by PPIC's RFTC and AET pipeline evaluation systems for the pipeline operator. Using their extensive experience and technological expertise, Interactive Engineering staff take several different types of information important to the health of a water supply system and combine them - providing an accurate and up-to-date picture of their infrastructure.
PPIC, which started with one employee, is one of Canada's fastest growing companies and continues to expand on a global level.
