PPIC Wins Third Ontario Global Traders Partnership Award
For Immediate Delivery
Barrie, Ontario - April 6th, 2006 - For the third time in the eight year history of the program, the Pressure Pipe Inspection Company (PPIC) has won the coveted Ontario Global Traders Central Region Partnership award.
This year's Partnership award was presented to PPIC and the WRC Group, of Wiltshire in the United Kingdom, for their work on the Sahara water transmission main leak detection system. The Sahara system pinpoints leaks in all types of water transmission mains with a diameter greater than 12".
The award was presented by Ontario's Ministry of Economic Development and Trade on April 6th at a ceremony in Barrie, Ontario. Ontario Global Traders awards recognize the most innovative and successful small and medium-sized exporters, business leaders and students throughout Ontario. The Partnership Award honors SMEs, and their partners, whose unique strategic alliance has contributed in a significant way to the export success of one or both partners.
In 2004, PPIC licensed Sahara to perform leak detection services for water utilities in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Libya, Ecuador and Columbia. "The success that PPIC has had in commercializing this technology has led to increased exports and an expanded partnership between the two companies," said WRc's Anthony Bond, the inventor of the Sahara technology. "We have subsequently agreed to expand PPIC's Sahara license to encompass all of North and South America, and some countries in Africa and the Middle East."
"The companies have also agreed to work together to enhance the Sahara's software and hardware, collaborate on research projects for other technologies and services, and to market more of WRc's asset management, water and wastewater solutions," stated PPIC's Dr. Brian Mergelas.
In 2001, and again in 2002, PPIC won the Partnership Award with Queen's University and InvoDane Engineering for their combined efforts in the development of Remote Field Eddy Current / Transformer Coupling (RFEC/TC) inspection tools. These tools have been used to establish the baseline condition of over 2,500 miles of Prestressed Concrete Cylinder Pipe (PCCP).
"PPIC is honored to have received recognition for our efforts in finding and developing export markets," said Mergelas. "Exports are a driving force behind Canada's economy and PPIC will continue to expand its product and services offerings to help improve the integrity of the world's pipeline infrastructure."
As the global leader in the condition assessment of water transmission pipelines, PPIC has been successful in exporting pipeline condition assessment services throughout North America and around the world. The company recently opened offices in Dallas, Texas, and Atlanta, Georgia. Over ninety-five percent of PPIC's business is export sales outside of Canada.
