PPIC wins Small Business of the Year Award

Mississauga, Ontario, Canada - August 20, 2002 - The Mississauga Board of Trade is pleased to announce the winners of the 2002 Outstanding Business Achievement Awards proudly sponsored in part by Britannia College of Career Development. These awards are presented annually to honour the efforts of successful Mississauga businesses whose achievements have made important contributions to the economic well-being of the City of Mississauga and its citizens. The Awards, Education and Training, Environment and Independent Business Committees have identified the businesses in Mississauga who have made significant contributions and will recognize their efforts at the annual Awards Dinner being held on Thursday, October 3, 2002 at the Mississauga Convention Centre.

This year the Mississauga Board of Trade is proud to present "The Magic of Brian Michaels" as the main entertainment for this special evening. Prepare to be amazed as this award-winning illusionist captivates your attention with an interactive show filled with state of the art magic and illusions.

John Dunne, former president of the Great Atlantic and Pacific Company of Canada (A&P) has been named the 2002 Business Person of the Year. He is receiving this award as recognition for his demonstrated concern for business standards, entrepreneurship, innovation and involvement in economic development and fostering awareness of the Mississauga business community through his energetic community involvement and personal contributions.

The Business of the Year Award, both large and small, recognizes the business achievements and corporate citizenship that has contributed to the economic growth in Mississauga. This year's Large Business of the Year Award will be presented to Rand Technology Corporation. The Small Business of the Year Award will be presented to The Pressure Pipe Inspection Company Ltd.

Lisa Fedele of Cherished Scrapbooks will receive the Sam McCallion Small Business Community Involvement Award for her efforts in developing entrepreneurial skills in others. Her business provides a unique environment where others interested starting their own business venture are encouraged. Ms. Fedele also provides community support by volunteering with many business organizations.

This year the Mississauga Board of Trade will be presenting the Environmental Excellence Award to two organizations. Trillium Health Centre and Canam Building Envelope Specialties Inc. are this year's Environmental Excellence Award recipients. These two organizations are being recognized for their contributions to the environmental well being of the City of Mississauga, and the environment as a whole.

Gil Moore and Metalworks Recording Studios will be recognized for Sustaining Support to the Arts Community.

Steven Taylor of Nova Staffing Inc. will receive the Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, which recognizes the achievements of entrepreneurs under 35, operating a business in Mississauga.

Nurturing Success: Education and Business Working Together is a new award developed by the Mississauga Board of Trade's Education & Training Committee and proudly sponsored by Bell Canada. This award recognizes businesses and educational institutions that demonstrate a broad-based commitment to preparing youth for the market place. It is the partnership between the business and the educator that is recognized by this new award. The 2002 Nurturing Success: Education and Business Working Together award will be presented to the Mississauga YMCA Employment Services (business) and the TELL Program, Peel District School Board (educator). Rogers Television (Mississauga) and Peel District School Board will be receiving honourable mention this year for their commitment to allow youth gain valuable work experience.
