Ontario Global Trader Awards given to two Mississauga firms
Mississauga, Ontario, Canada - May, 2001 - The Mississauga Board of Trade is pleased to announce the winners of the 2001 Outstanding Business Achievement Awards proudly sponsored by J.J. Barnicke Limited. These awards are presented annually to honour the efforts of successful Mississauga businesses whose achievements have made important contributions to the economic well-being of the City of Mississauga and its citizens. The Awards, Environment, and Independent Business Committees have identified the businesses in Mississauga who have made significant contributions and will recognize their efforts at the annual Awards Dinner being held on Thursday, May 24, 2001 at the Mississauga Convention Centre.
In year of the Millennium, the Mississauga Board of Trade is proud to present a special Award of Excellence in celebration of our 25th Anniversary, to Mayor Hazel McCallion, in recognition of her time and commitment to the betterment of the Mississauga business community. In honour of this award presentation to the Mayor, we will have special guests in attendance, including Canada's premiere's comedian Mike Bullard and Fran Rider of the Ontario Women's Hockey Association. Also, we will have special video presentations from The Right Honourable Jean Chrétien, Prime Minister of Canada, and The Honourable Michael Harris, Premier of Ontario.
Paul Lucas of GlaxoSmithKline has been named the 2001 Business Person of the Year for his demonstrated concern for business standards, entrepreneurship, innovation and involvement in economic development and fostering awareness of the Mississauga business community through his energetic community involvement and personal contributions.
The Business of the Year Award, both large and small, recognizes the business achievements and corporate citizenship that has contributed to the economic growth in Mississauga. This year's Large Business of the Year Award will be presented to Prime Restaurant Group Inc. The Small Business of the Year Award will be presented to metaLogic Consulting Inc.
Debi Sander Walker Entertainment will receive the Sam McCallion Small Business Community Involvement Award for support in the form of volunteer time to activities that enrich, protect or entertain the citizenry of Mississauga.
The Pressure Pipe Inspection Company Ltd. will receive the Exporter of the Year Award given in recognition of outstanding export relations, maintenance of export sales and overall contribution to the City and/or Region. An honourable mention award will be presented to EFOS Inc.
The Environmental Excellence Award will be presented to Fielding Chemical Technologies Inc. for their contributions to the environmental well being of the City of Mississauga, and the environment as a whole. An honourable mention award will be given to EMS/DACS.
Century Audio Visual Ltd. will be recognized for its Distinguished Support to the Arts Community. Jake Dheer and Rogers Cable will be recognized for Sustaining Support to the Arts Community.
Andre Maurice of ACS Inc. will receive the Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, given by the Independent Business Committee, to recognize the achievements of entrepreneurs under 30, operating a business in Mississauga.
