Emergency Inspection at Large Industrial Facility -
When a major steel producer in North America experienced a recirculating water pipeline rupture, PPIC was on-site working with the client to assess the situation within a few hours from the initial call. The 48” lined cylinder pipe (LCP) was vital for plant operations to continue without production interruptions. PPIC mobilized a field crew and executed an inspection the following day using a robotic PipeCrawler™ RFTC unit. The results of the condition assessment will help the client plan any additional repair and replace programs.
EPA Trials in Louisville a Success - During the weeks of July 13th and 20th, 2009, PPIC worked with the U.S. EPA, Battelle, and Louisville Water Company to demonstrate two state-of-the-art pipeline inspection technologies on a 2,500-ft long, 24-inch in diameter cast iron pipe under EPA’s Aging Water Infrastructure Research Program. Overall the demonstrations were successful and the PPIC guests were pleased with the results. Stay tuned for a full EPA report to be released later this year.
Halifax PipeDiver™ Trials Validated -
In July 2009, PPIC validated four pipes identified as distressed during a PipeDiver™ inspection. These four pipes were removed from the ground so that a complete inspection of the prestressing wires could occur. This involved removing the mortar and examining each wire wrap for breaks, and comparing the number and positions of breaks to the RFTC results. In all cases, wire break positions matched the predicted locations.
